谢黎君的信

董事会对校长处理不力已经到了令家长恼怒的地步了。为什么?
李政董事和校长亲夫是多年至交。十几年前就是大学同学。他是在周林胡小君操纵下在不足一百人的家长选出来的。到董事会目的十分明确:为周琳做代理。
西蒙受周琳侮辱,一忍再忍长达四周之久。无人过问,利益小人李政,听周琳丈夫说周受到法律威胁,立即受命跳出来要劝西蒙辞职,好一副马前卒的嘴脸。通过李政,周琳对董事会的运作的细节了如指掌,破坏董事会保密制度。(见以下博客)
提请董事会注意:对李政懂事的一切言论动议,加以细心考察。尤其是对周琳的处理问题,校长的任命问题等。
提请李政:在董事会,希望你每说一句话要按一按自己的心口。做一个高尚的人,纯粹的人。一点儿不晚。
提请李政:孙本京董事坦荡照人,不愧一个好汉。把女儿的事情讲得明明白白。你应向本京董事学习,把与周琳丈夫的事,你如何被推荐参选的是向董事会讲清楚。
提请董事会注意:董事潘虹野已经是精神不正常了。上次老师董事会开会,有目共睹。她把董事会闹得很尴尬。使老师们人对董事会失去信心。对其应加以限制。有病应该离开董事会。
提请所有人注意:对潘虹野要宽容,是个好人,呕心沥血地奉献。但她的确有病。
提请所有人注意:读一读 http://nwcssaga.blogspot.com。有些过激,但瑕不掩玉。没有不在理的。听听家长们说什么,醒醒吧!

我想,如果Simon先生起诉周林,那是顺理成章的事情,周篡改Simon的原作,断章取义,误导大众,这完全是她道德败坏的表现。这种人怎能再当校长?理应fire掉!李正不去追究校长的错误,反而让Simon辞职,真是是非不分。看到谢的信,才知原来如此。有这样的董事搅局,中文学校能不乱吗?

校长在发出信的当时就该辞职,或者被解雇,这样道德品质不好的人不管,反要罢免受害者Simon, 简直是狗屁逻辑。这个学校学校好像被黑帮给霸占了。

It is a joke that we have BOD members like PHY and LZ. I heard that PHY even forced BOD to revote because the vote result was 7:2 and he/she is one of those 2. This "throwing tantrum" behavior shouldn't be tolerated in BOD. About LZ, I don't need to say anything more. It is clear that how and why he got into BOD in the first place and what he is doing in BOD right now.
I don't know that any of you still remember that a few years ago NWCS had a principal who abused her power around the similar time like now (May/June). BOD at that time made an emergence decision including IMMEDIATELY TERMINATING the principal and appointed a BOD member as acting principal to ensure normal operating of NWCS. I wish our current BOD has such a courage to do the right thing. But including PHY and LZ, I doubt that is going to happen.

Peter, I remeber you mention in the begining of your term that any people can go to BOD meetings. However, if you don't announce meetings in advance, it makes impossible for others to go unless you are ....... Second, please make it clear whether people other than BOD members can participate discussions in your minute report afterwards. If they could, I suggest that their identities should be publicized. Those steps will in part ensure transparency of governing of NWCS.

Correction: at the end of the second paragraphy, I means to say:

If more people think these board member is not do their job, what is step parents can take to take them away from board?

With 15+ parents' signatures, the board MUST call an all-parent meeting to decide whether a board member must go. This is in the school's by-law.

According to the NWCS by-law, "Any director can be impeached by a three/fourth majority vote by the regular Directors or a two/third majority vote by NWCS members during general membership meeting."

if the current Board can not function due to conflict of interests (such as one director is long-time friend of the Principal's husband, another one's daughter is on NWCS payroll which is under Principal's control), maybe it's time to straiten out the Board.

How did the special interest parent group (the so called 22 parents) get organized initially?

What were their concerns? And how did they come up with the concerns?

很有趣,本人很少关心中文学校的事, 认识的人几乎没有。心里很惭愧。 近来收到很多的emails, 觉得也想发个言。 我觉得现在的 Dr. Peter Huang 所领导的 Board of Directors 工作做的很有进展。希望大家多多鼓励。(我不认识Peter). Kutos to the Board! 我最反感那些开口就攻击别人的人。不要以自我为中心嘛。我想大家都是在为下一代作贡献。 和气为贵。

我想讲以下几点建议:
1.公开 -- all Board meetings should be open to every school memebers who are interested in participation. All meetings should be announced with agenda details ahead of time to encourange participations.
2.公正 -- Everyone who is concerned or interested should be allowed to speak out, as long as it is for the good of the school.
3.听证 -- The board should hold periodic public meetings with topics most concerned by the members, such as school programs, safety issues, emergency preparedness, and other short education programs toward to our Chinese community.
4.少数服从多数 -- As long as a decision is made after public discussions and debates, we all should repect the decision. If you do not like the decision, you can appeal with some kind of procedure yet to be discussed.

I totally agree with you. If we all put school and children's interest before our own interest, things will be much more simple and clear.

Agree that BOD meeting should be open with advance announcement. Also when BOD decides to ask/hire/invite some people outside the board to do things vital to NWCS like "leading the effort to get our Open Hearing logistics together", announcement should made BEFORE their work with brief explanation about why they are chosen and whether they are paid or not, certainly NOT AFTERFACT. This at least would eliminate legitimacy problems caused by secrecy.

Many people have been volunteering in NWCS. Some are visible (like June Hu, some of 22 concerned parents, and others). But majority of them are invisible. However if it means you have more say about how to govern the NWCS because you volunteer more or just in merely more visible way, your MOTIVATION of volunteerism become questionable. In my eyes, that TAINTs the spirit of volunteerism.

Another thing we should look at is the payroll list. I do think payroll list should be PUBLICIZED every half year. Information should include name with simple explanation about what position he/she holds in NWCS. The exact compensations of any key employees like Principal, Vice Principals, Treasurers etc. should also be publicized. Also BOD should make any contract work (like accounting, cleaning, etc.) public. We used to have information about names of teachers for each class and names of administration members as well as BOD members's names available Online. Why has it stopped for last two years? Can we restore that?

In conclusion, TRANSPARENCY and COMMUICATION are the key issues here. If we make sure transparency of governing NWCS and constant commuication with total members of NWCS, it would help to eliminate any misunderstanding, so called "22 concerned parents" issue and "throwing tantrum" behavior.

There is a email calling for "some tangible proposals". In summary, I give my proposals:

1. BOD meeting should be open with ADVANCED announcement.

2. Payroll list (with names and exact compensations for key employees) should be publicized.

In the end, I thank every teacher for his/her deligent work to teach our kids and all volunteers to keep NWCS going.
